Head Coach Daryl Powell Has Our Backing

He’s played for Sheffield Eagles, Balmain Tigers, Gold Coast Seagulls, Keighley and Leeds Rhinos. Following on from coaching stints at Leeds Rhinos and Featherstone Rovers, Daryl Powell managed to take his current team Castleford Tigers to their first Wembley appearance for 20 years against Leeds Rhinos.

This achievement was recognised when he was awarded Super League Coach of the Year in 2014, an honour he received again in 2017 following his team’s claim to the League Leaders Shield, a first in the Castleford Tigers’ 91-year history.

With these successes and many more, we’re delighted to be sponsoring Daryl as he takes the club from strength to strength, a club with which we at R Collins have a great affinity with and whose highs and lows we’ve charted, home and away, for over 30 years.

R Collins company director, Tracey Train explained that the timing was right to support the head of the team through sponsorship,

“R Collins & Co have been a broker in Castleford for more than 40 years, after working for the company for over 30 years and taking over the business in 2015 it was time to move the company into a new direction and part of this is to give back to the local community and local charities – what better way to do this than by sponsoring the Head Coach of Castleford Tigers and becoming a partner sponsor of The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract,” she said.

Daryl’s coaching career followed on from his retirement from playing in 2001. As well as his successes with Castleford Tigers, Daryl has led Featherstone Rovers to the League Leaders’ Shield in the years between 2010-2012, as well as the Grand Final Championship in 2011 and The European Championship Trophy in 2012.

“Daryl’s had quite a glittering career as a player and a coach, and we’re over the moon to support him as he takes our local team from strength to strength,” Tracey said.
